Southbank Skatepark
The undercroft of the Southbank Centre is widely recognised as the birthplace of British skateboarding and has been home to boarders, riders and graffiti artists for the past 40 years. In 2014 it gained the attention of the media as the re-development of the area put it in danger of extinction, however it was avidly fought for by skaters and local enthusiasts through the Long Live South Bank campaign and won. They fought to keep it here so make sure you get down here and shred a piece of UK skate history.
Over time the area has shrunk from its former glory days, however the remaining skateable plaza style area is all concrete and features a variety of blocks, a 7 stair set and the notorious banks. There are two blocks in the lead up to the stair set, one long and flat with the other being shorter and slanted upwards. Adjacent to the stair set is an infamous gap in the form of another block leading into a massive drop for those who are brave enough. On the other side is another upwards slanted block leading into a bank. The lower section of the plaza is surrounded by the banks with a set of railings around the edge as well.
With no set opening times and being undercover and lit this makes for a good place for a meet friends in the evenings for a night time skate.

Getting there
London Waterloo train station: Exit London Waterloo at the main entrance, turn left and walk along Sutton Walk under the train bridge. At the end turn left along Concert Hall Approach, cross the road and walk up the stairs. Follow this walkway with the Royal Festival Hall on your right, once you reach the river turn right, walk down the stairs and follow the river until you hear the sound of skateboards echoing in the undercroft.
South Bank bus stop: Walk north toward Waterloo Bridge until you see the pedestrian stairs on your right. Take these down to the riverside and follow the river along your left until you reach South Bank.
